Matthew B. Gretzer, MD, FACS

Professor, Urology
Director, Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery
Academic Professional Bio:

Matthew Gretzer, MD, is a clinical professor and the director of genitourinary reconstructive surgery at the University of Arizona Department of Urology, College of Medicine - Tucson. Dr. Gretzer specializes in the management of urethral stricture disease and is one of only a few Arizona urologists that routinely performs a high volume of complex urethral reconstruction (urethroplasty) cases. In addition, he has advanced urologic training in all aspects of genitourinary reconstruction and prosthetics and performs numerous penile implant and artificial urinary sphincter cases, both initial and revisional as referred from other urologists. The highly complex nature of these procedures improves the quality of life for these patients following cancer therapy and traumatic injury.

Since joining the University of Arizona Division of Urology faculty in 2005, Dr. Gretzer has established the Department of Urology as a center of excellence in genitourinary reconstruction. When he arrived, there were no other urethral reconstruction specialists in Arizona. He has since worked hard to develop a wide referral network that spans all of Arizona as well as all of its neighboring states. As this program has matured in Arizona, patients are now routinely referred to the University of Arizona in Tucson for this unique management of their treatment instead of being referred out of state.

"I treat everyone as I would want to be treated and strive to maintain accessibility, communication, and above all...trust." - Matthew Gretzer, MD, FACS.
